Described by Eamon Carr as “A very impressive hard rock band”. Mama’s Boys guitarist called them “A good wee band”.
They recorded at least one demo tape.
Andrew O’Cleraigh was later replaced by Sid Clarke. Sid Clarke damaged his knee ligaments in a car crash in 1986 but still managed to play a gig a week later at the local football club in Kells.
They regularly played the Russell Hotel, Navan on the regular rock nights held at the venue. It often featured 4 bands 3 of which would be Hydro Electric, Varicose Veins & Blak Hawx. One of their own songs “Blak Hawx” was a crowd Favorite.
Their last ever gig was a fund raiser with Dresden Paul on Boxing Day 1986.
There were reports in the local press that the band would record a single with the help of Eamon Carr of Horslips.
Blak Hawx had gigs with the Mama’s Boys, April South & Brush Shiels.
The band also played local schools often with another local Heavy Metal band called Marauder.
A Band Aid style gig was organized in aid of famine relief at the Gaelic Centre in Kells on the bill were Blak Hawx, Marauder, Double Vision, Queen of Hearts, No Name Band.
At this time I’m not sure of the correct spelling of the name of this band as it appears in the local press as Black Hawck, Blak Hawk, & Blak Hawx. If you can help with this or any other information on this band please get in touch.
