Apart from the Limerick talent contest this is the first time U2 play outside of the greater Dublin area. Asylum are a local Cork band, in the early days of the Downtown Kampus gigs in cork, Asylum were the house band. They would later be replaced by Nun Attax. This is the only time U2 have them as a support band. Sammy Sullivan Asylum’s drummer will become U2’s drum roadie in later years.

Asylum are; Paul Tiern (vocals), Christy O’Connell (guitar), John O’Sullivan, (Bass), Sammy Sullivan (Drums). I am not sure if John’s surname is Sullivan or O’Sullivan.
