Sinead O’Connor

In Tua Nua’s original singer was one Sinead O’Connor but at 16 years of age she was too young tour. In Tua Nua’s debut gig (24/09/83) was at Dublin’s TV Club and pulled in a crowd of 600. Their first nationwide took place in December 83 and according to Jack Dublin was self financed and cost them a fortune.

Refugees

The band described themselves as refugees from other band in their first press release.
These bands included Deaf Actor, Rhythm Kings, Electric Maggots, The Gravediggers, Modulators, Yeah Yeah & The Assembly. Steve Wickham & Vinney Kilduff had both played with U2 on their October & war albums. Both would later feature in the Waterboys. In 1983 they won the Hot Press most promising Act award.

Mother Records

The band were signed to U2’s Mother Records and released the labels first single “Coming Thru/Laughing at the moon Mother 001.
A album was recorded for Island records, but for some reason it was never released. The band later signed to Virgin Records in 1986 releasing a album in 1987. A John Peel session was recorded.
