The Outpatients supplied two tracks “Pearl” & “Wildest Woman in Glasnevin” According to Richie Taylor they are the outstanding tracks. The other bands on the LP are The Conspiracy with “Cray & Badlands”, Lipstick Vogue with “Riversends & When Will You, So She Said with “Let Me Out & So Happy”, The Storm with “Too Far Gone & Walk All Over You”, JFK with The Other Side Of Midnight & The Room Is Empty”, De Face with Kickback.

The Carling/Hot Press Battle Of The Bands was a completion to find the best unsigned band in Ireland. Bands had to send a demo tape in to the judges, the final 20 would then be selected to play live at Sir Henry’s in Cork, to make it though to the grand final. If you won, a record deal & £1,000 was up for grabs. In the first heat The Penelope Smash from Belfast were replaced by Lipstick Vogue from Dublin at the last minute. At this time I don’t know why.

The competition is held at Sir Henry’s, in Cork over 5 weeks. With the winner each week going on to the final.

The Out Patients released at least two demo tapes, described by Hot Press as “Infectious tunes”. 1988 demo Pearl, Wildest Woman In Glasnevin, When We Were Young, Rocky Steady Freddy. 1989 demo Pearl, Corner Shop, Dog Eared Love.
