Dublin Punk Band
Abnormal were a early 80’s Dublin Punk band from Coolock. They used to practice in the same venue as Paranoid Visions, off Capel St and as far as I can remember both bands played a gig or two together when Paranoid Visions were known as Insane Youth. This was around 1982. Abnormal recorded quite a good demo around then (they were quite good musicians) and had a deadly song on it called “Tribal War” which was about the stupidity of different youth cultures fighting each other (Punks and Mods were knocking fuck out of each other in the city centre on a regular basis at the time). As for being Nazis I don’t remember anything like that about them. If anything I would say they were pretty un-political in general. Maybe somebody else knows different. I perceived them as Coolock casuals playing punk.
Abnormal played twice with insane youth and at least twice with paranoid visions. They definitely were not Nazis, they were just a great bunch of lads from Coolock who outplayed everyone else in the scene. I remember that scene review and it was all bollocks actually, one character trying to paint Dublin out as being altogether more interesting than it was. He worked in a bank…..
MMR Fanzine Issues
The band were mentioned in Maximum Rock n Roll on couple of occasions, issues 12 & 17. There are also reports of the band recording a video. Has anyone got a copy of this? There were also reports of tracks being used on a computation album, but this never happened.
