L to r Steve, Siobhan & Maria.
Atonomy are a new band who came together at the beginning of April, this year, Steve originally played in a primal set up with Charlie Rafferty from the Low. Siobhan & Maria had no previous experience of music, but this didn’t appear to hinder their enthusiasm, the first day the three met they decided to get a practice room & work from there. The didn’t possess any pre conceptions or misconceptions, & didn’t know exactly what was going to happen, if anything. Eventually Atonomy emerged.
The same old scene
Steve We were simply getting fed up with the clique situation in Dublin. Punk tried to eliminate this but obviously it hasn’t succeeded. Now it’s getting back to the old hippy stage once again – technically good bands who never seem to slip up, but once you’ve seen them that’s it. Dublin will always be caught up in the old Baggot Inn system. But this is the same all over – a band like the Clash have degenerated into old rock style, whereas, bands like Modern English & Wire are still involved with basic music, but have progressed into new areas. This is what interests me most.
During March/April Atomony were bottom of the bill on a 3 band residency with The Low & A Terre in Dublin’s Ivy Rooms. The band often played support to The Low.
