1n 1989, Lipstick Vogue were involved in the Carling/Hot Press search for the best young Irish band. They were in heat 3 with Thrupenny Opera (Wexford), Jerusalem (Derry), Andrew Bass & the Innocent Ones (Dublin), Thrupenny Opera won this heat.

The competition is held at Sir Henry’s, in Cork over 5 weeks. With the winner each week going on to the final.

Heat 1, 3rd May The Sugar Rays (Navan), October (Fermanagh), The Elite (Dublin), The Surrealists (Ennis).
