Birth of the New Heroes

In August 1979 after the “Dream Dates Tour”, which feature three of Ireland’s top New Wave/Punk bands, “The Sinners”, “The Boy Scoutz” & “Fabulous Fabrics”. All three bands split up. Tony and Bernie (The Sinners), Carol (Boy Scoutz) and Mick (Fabulous Fabrics) all formed a new band, the New Heroes.

Playing Live

New Heroes at the Magnet Bar

  • Thee New Heroes did have a two month residency at the Dublin’s Magnet bar in April/May ’80. Their set was all original material, apart from a few songs supplied by ex Horslips singer/guitarist Charles O’Conner. There were plans to release a single by the band on Guided Missile label. Of course this fell though when Heat fanzine folded.
  • The band move to London sometime in ’80, but it did not work out for them.

They produced a mini album on the Media Burn label and contributed a number of tracks to various compilations including Battle of the Garages Vol 2 on the Bomp label.
They were part of the Garage scene that grew up around Mike Spenser’s Friday night Garage Club in the basement of the Clarendon in Hammersmith.
