Before forming Double Vision Pat, when he was just 11 years old, was in a band called “The Champions” along with his three sisters. They toured Ireland and the UK, before they disbanded. The 1985 version of the band also included Joel Harten & Paul Carpenter. Mathew was formerly in Heavy Metal band Marauder.
Double Vision
Formed in June of ’81. They do play some covers but most of their set is original material written by Pat. All four members of the band had previously been in other local bands.
David Hamilton
A early show was as support to BBC Radio One DJ Diddy David Hamilton at the Sea View Hotel in Bunbeg.
According to reports in the local press, Double Vision are a very popular band locally, but of course need to move too Dublin to “make it”.
Sometime in 1982 Peter Healy quit to be replaced by Michael Hueston from Glasgow. The band were forced off the road while Michael O’Donnell recovered form a car crash.
Demo Tape
In late ’82 they went into Slane Recording Studio to record five tracks. All five songs are originals. “Bad Women & Booze”, “Tonight”, “Grey Cortine”, “Johnny” and “Four Minutes to Go”. Over the Christmas period the tape gets plenty of airtime RTE Radio 2.
3pm
Double Vision split up in July ’83. Pat Gallagher joined Country Fever with Daniel O’Donnell. Pat would go on to win £500 for is Anti nuclear “Four Minutes To Go” in the 1984 Ballina song contest. In 1985 Pat and Peter Healy would team up again in 3pm. 3pm released an excellent single on Vixen Records. Picture On The Wall/The Well. Picture On The Wall was about Princess Grace Kelly. Both tracks were written by Pat.
A Different Double Vision on Conks Records
The 7″ single Precious Heart/Instrumental Conks Records CRS 012. Is by a completely different band.
