The Village started out as a trio with Ray Browne on bass & vocals. They play a 100% original set featuring a cohesive and energetic mix of various styles. Music Moves a local Arts charity set up to promote local bands at local venues, gave the band their first Waterford gig supporting Toy With Rhythm (Dublin) at the Bridge Hotel. Later that same month they headlined in their own right at Norris Minor.
They played mainly in and around the Waterford area, appearing at many of the local music festivals. Including the first two “People’s Park” concerts & the New Ross “Lark In The Park”. Cry Before Dawn, Purple Haze were also on the “Lark” concert bill.

In June ’84 They record their first demo tape (5 tracks), and leave for London. While in London the band play at the G.L.C. Jubilee Gardens open air concert. It’s also reported that two major British labels are interested in signing the band.

In August ’84 The Village play an open air festival at the People’s Park Waterford, along with other local bands Force 10, Time in The Shade, Jimmy McCabe, Passive Factor and more. They would also play the same festival in 1985 along with Jimmy McCabe, Purple Haze & Force 10.

By 1985 Paddy Jacob had joined on vocals.

The Village on RTE

24/05/1985 The Village appeared on RTE programme TV Ga Ga, they performed a track from their new demo tape “The Kings New Clothes”. The tape was recorded at Cooleycall Studio in Wexford and produced by Paul Spencer. It received great airplay on local & national radio.

22/11/1985 The Village play a live gig at The Bridge Hotel for the Fave Fanning Radio show. Another local band The Krazy Kats are the support. The band also recorded a Fanning session some time before this concert.

Early in 1986 Paul Condon joined the band on bass & backing vocals.
