Come Out To Play Feburary/March 1980
U2 embark on their first nationwide tour of Ireland, “Hot Press” adverts have this listed as “Tour De France”, but the promotional posters etc list it as the “Come Out To Play” tour. The tour coincides with the Irish CBS release of their new single “Another Day”. Although not part of this tour i have included the dates U2 played in Ireland in January & March. U2 become the first Irish band that have not been signed to a major record label to sell out Dublin’s National Stadium. In “Hot Press” the Bray date has the venue as the Dug Inn, between the dates being released and the concert the venue changes its name to “Classes”. This is also the only time U2 are known to have played in Limerick. After the gig Bono gives an interview with the Irish Press and labels the youth’s of Limerick as “Boot Boys”
