No Exit played a few gigs in the Dundalk area including the “Cellars”, No Exit only played cover versions at this stage. They disbanded in 1983. Only to reform a Cry in 1984.

Ceremony formed in 1984 for the “Search for a Star” competition, although they did not win they received alot of praise. The band recorded their fist demo tape at Slane Studio. “Cry In the Night” & “Birthday Girl”. Paul later admitted that the band failed to use the tape to get any local or national airplay.
They took part in the Simon Community charity concert at Sir Henry’s raising over £1,500. Other bands taking part were Philip King, Cargo Cult, Jimmy McCarthy, Alice In Wonderland.

Along with the line up change the band also change their name to Cry. Cry entered the 1985 “Search For a Star” competition, this time winning. This lead to another demo recording at Slane Studio. By this time the band are writing their own material. Gid wrote the lyrics with Paul & Dennis supplying the music.
Dundalk staged it’s own “Live Aid” concert raising over £500. Taking part were Dundalk bands Meta 4, Great White Hunter, Painted Veil, Eat The Evidence, Dublin bands Aslan & Eugene and from Sligo Absolute Zero.
Cry also played a concert with Auto Da Fe at the Blackrock Community College. In July “Gid” left the band, but continued to work with them.
