Aidan and Stephen are brothers.

Just A Philistine released a two track demo tape in 1988, the tracks were No Summertime and The Philistines.

In 1989 Just A Philistine entered the Carling/Hot Press Best unsigned act competition and won. Beating off stiff competition in the final from (2nd) Drogheda band Trenchtown and (3rd) Dublin’s The Outpatients.

Just A Philistine took part in the 1989 Carling Hot Press competition at Sir Henry’s in Cork. They won the 5th heat. They were the only band from Nass to make the final twenty that year. Just A Philistine played in Heat 5 along with Stands Trenchtown (Drogheda), Train Walkers (Dublin) and New Hollande (Dublin). In heat 5 the Train Walkers were a late replacement for Cut The Bag from Belfast. In heat 5 the judges could not split Just A Philistine & Trenchtown, so both bands went into the final.

The competition is held at Sir Henry’s, in Cork over 5 weeks. With the winner each week going on to the final.
