Early Fanzines
Dublin’s First Fanzines Raw Power & Heat
With it’s close links to the UK a few young Dubliners would travel to the big cities of Manchester, Liverpool & London. They would pick up the latest records, badges, fanzines, magazines etc etc and take them back to Ireland. An example of this was John Fisher. John had a punk badge stall in the Danelion Market & also promoted the now famous Dandelion Market gigs in Dublin.
Ireland’s first fanzine. It only lasted for 2 issues.
With it’s professional appearance Heat out classed everything else.
Click on the link below if you want to see of Raw Power & Heat. All issues of Heat can be seen on this site.
Fanzines were a major part of the punk movement. Photo copied photo’s, hand written text. Most were run off on a photocopier, rather than printed, in true punk style. Anyone could start one and write about their favourite bands. If you wanted information on bands that never got any coverage in the main stream media, this was the place to look.
I have no info on reginal fanzines in Ireland. If you have copies of your local fanzine please get in touch. I need copies of zines from Cork, Waterford, Drogheda, Dundalk, Sligo etc etc.
