Paul Myers

Sweet Revenge were formed by Paul Myers in August 1981. Paul started play guitar at the age of 12. His Uncle had played in various showbands for years. Paul followed suit playing with The Apaches Showband, before leaving to form Blue Angel.

Malachy O’Brien

Drummer Malachy O’Brien had also been on the Showband circuit with April South’s band the Silver Pennies during 1978 & 1979.

12 Channel P.A.

The band ploughed all the money they made into buying their own equipment. They purchased a 12 channel P.A. This gave them a reliable sound system rather than highering a system and not knowing what would turn up.

Slane Studio

In August 1981 the band recorded a demo tape at Slane studio which was played on the Dave Fanning rock on RTE radio. There are 5 or 6 other tracks recorded which are stored at the studio in the hope of being used for an album later. The tracks were produced by Joe Wyane the manager of Mama’s Boys. Their first Dublin gig was at the Baggot in with Witches Brew and the Mama’s Boys.

With Cavan being close to the border the band regularly played The Venue in Londonderry & the Pound in Belfast. According to Paul the band really enjoyed playing these gigs in the North. They also had a residency at Dublin’s Magnet Bar in November 1981.
