Phoenix Park concert

24/05/1979 Silks Nightclub, Phoenix Park with The Strougers, The Letters, Romanics.
Hailing from the Navan Road, the Bunko Squad played gigs at the Navan Road School Hall, Silk’s nightclub & the Baggot Inn. They were great supporters of “The Strougers” in their early days. The band rehearsed in Tommy’s garage & played Pink Floyd, Thin Lizzy & Fleetwood Mac covers. They would later drop the second guitarist John Furlong & become (around 1979) The Population.

Three members of Bunko Squad went on to form the Population. Unlike The Bunko Squad, the Population played mainly original material.

Many thanks to Peter MCCluskey, Shay Hiney, Paul Rooney & Bitzy for their help with this page.
