The original line up of Mean Features was very experimental, they didn’t use guitars. However this soon changed with Liam pushing for a more guitar based sound.
Their first gig was the Carnsore anti nuclear festival. At the time of this gig Mean Features did not have a vocalist, Mick stepped in, was in Constant Reminders at the time, he never went back.
Their music is quite varied, but is tie together and textured by Liam’s emphasis on guitar phasing. Bass and drums provide a strong rhythm section but the vocals, at times, tend to weaken and become tedious. Their better songs include “Kapital!, “On My Own”, “The Man”, “Hate Song” and the excellent “Venus’s Fly Trap”. Vox fanzine
