Subvert All Power

Hot Press Concert Review

The sound of Drogheda beckons. Once thought of as a desert in musical terms, this dry and arid landscape is slowly but surely developing a touch of nature. Not exactly an oasis, now, but the occasional sprig or two are starting to sprout. Drogheda’s Dark Space, Futurama, call it what you will, took place recently in the cavernous and (mini) Dandelion like confines of the Laurels Boys Club. Five bands were on public view, some for the first time. Five bands brining the spirit and ideals of ’76 into the 80’s. The music of yesterday, today. For such an event to be thought of in Drogheda was unique enough. But to see that idea materialise in front of your face, was nothing short of astounding. To make comparisons between the bands would be, in this case, quite irrelevant. But if if my arm were threaten with severe breakage. I’d say that The Baldy Scaldies provided the best fun of the day, and The Enzymes the best music. It would be imprudent to talk loudly about The Enyzemes just yet, so until the proper time, we’ll whisper excitedly among ourselves.

Having said that, it should be pointed out that the entire event was magic, thoroughly enjoyable, and musically listenable to boot. Badges and soft drinks were on sale in the foyer, and Maggot wore his bumflap. Hip hip hooray. Tony Clayton Lea Hot Press
