Paul O’Mahoney Hot Press review

1990 exude a dynamism and energy, both on and off stage, that’s difficult to ignore. Their explosive performances have been unanimously praised down south. Choppy spaced out guitar, frantic tempo changes intermingled with soft and delicate passages, a powerhouse of bass and drums in the finest tradition and intricate song arrangements: these things make 1990 out as something special.

1990 Recordings

In 1983, a 4 track demo tape was recorded at Sulan Studio in Ballyvourney Co Cork. The demo was produce by John O’Sullivan, he also produced Five Go Down To The Sea’s EP. The standout tracks are “Profit Or The Actor” & “Today I woke Up”.
If one can judge from their demo tape, they have a lot of talent and could make it very big. With only guitar, bass and drums they produce a very full sound. With bass and drums tight as they might and guitar producing extraordinary sounds – well if The Police can do it. Profit Of The Actor, I need it Now, Circus and Today.
Their first concert is at Sir Henry’s Cork 6th April 1983. They played a 14 song original set. Wayne Sheehy & Kieran Kennedy were both formerly in Cork heavy metal band Driveshaft.
