Assembley were another of the “stepping stone” bands around Dublin at this time. All the members had previously been in other bands and would go on to bigger bands after Assembley.
Gorehounds
Colm had previously been in one of the premier first wave of Punk/New wave bands in Ireland, Revolver. He would later be in the Gorehounds, along with Brian, & Ray.
Ray, Before Assembly
Prior to joining the band, Ray had been involved in two Howth Punk bands. The Fast Skirts & The Blackouts. Both bands regularly played at the Howth Community Centre. The Blackouts took out a full page advert in volume 2 of the Heat fanzine.
Assembley Demo Recordings
They recorded two demo tapes. tracks Damp Climate, Aftermath, Lazy Day.
Assembly were one of the first bands to do live 30 minute gigs at Blaze X records on a Saturday afternoon.
Leslie
Leslie would go on to join Howth Trad rock band In Tua Nua. In 1984, the band were the first to sign to U2’s Mother label and released their first single “Coming Thru”. Shortly afterwards Island Records signed the band. A number of singles were released and a debut album recorded. The first Island single was the critically acclaimed “Take My Hand”, co-written by a young Sinead O’Connor. This was followed by a second single, a cover of Jefferson Airplanes hit “Somebody To Love”.
