Utopian Puppets recorded a 3 track demo tape in the Xeric studio in Limerick in 1989, the tracks were “Armchair Generals”, “While Gently Sleeps” & “Shout It Out”. “Shout It Out” was included on the Limerick album Reindeer Age. According to Ger McSweeney the singer & Ly with the band their older material was about depressing subjects like war & misery.

The Reindeer Age album, was recorded at the Xeric Studio in Limerick in 1989. This compilation album featured fellow Limerick Bands, The O’Malley’s A Touch Of Oliver, Up The Downstairs, Tuesday Blue, They Do It With Mirrors, Private World, The Drive, The Separators, Toucandance, Perfect Moment, The Hitchers, The Surrealists, X-It, Big John’s Bootleggin Band. The cassette version featured two extra tracks by Preachers Story & Mike O’Mahony.

In 1990 Utopian Puppets add a female keyboard player, their sound changed to more pop/dance style of music.
