Absolute Zero form about 6 months after Reverb split up. Dermot soon leaves the band. Naturally he finds the pressure of holding down a full time job and playing in the band too much. Conversely the other members of the band are all unemployed. Dermot is replaced by Tommy Buskins.
Films & Record Deals
According to reports in the local press EMI are taking an interest in the band & negations are well underway. The band also take part in an international music festival in Paris on 21/06/1985 the Fete de la Musique. Furthermore there are rumours about a feature film being shot in the Sligo area with them providing the sound track.
Absolute Zero “Live Aid”
In July ’85 they take part in a Live Aid concert in Dundalk at AOH. Also on the bill are Aslan, Eugene & Natural Wild from Dublin Navan’s Eat The Evidence & local Dundalk bands Meta 4, Cry, Painted Vail, Red The Spine & Great White Hunter. Moreover over 400 people in attendance the concert raises £700.
Recordings
In November 1985 John Meehan formerly of Blitzkreig takes over on vocals.
During their life span the band release 3 singles Go For your Gun/Running on SRS Records. You Will Fall/I Want To See Your Face Hotwire Records. Vision/Vale Of Tears Direction Records.
Absolute Zero released a single in March ’86 “You Will Fall”. The song is about President Botha, consequently all proceeds from the sales of the record go towards the anti apartheid movement.
The single is described in the local press as “It thurms along in quite an attractive fashion without creating any great excitement or inflicting any real pain”.
