Stryder won the rock section of the 2nd International Music Festival held at the RDS in Dublin. Joe Wearan also won the best instrumentalist. Taking home a £2,000 recording contract. In second place were Average Contents. The boys in the band converted a old glasshouse into a rehearsal room. The bands first gig was at the Baggot Inn as support to Stepaside. They also had support slot at the Baggot Inn & Crofton Airport Hotel with Room Service & The Lookalikes. They also supported the Lookalikes at their National Stadium concert.
The band along with It’s A tightrope, The Shy, The Shade, Blind Dancer were selected to play in a “Battle of the Bands competion at the City Hall in Cork. The winning bands would go on to the final and play at Londons Hammersmith Odeon. The winner would recieve £4,000 and a recording contract.
They released one single record at the Lombard Studio in Dublin. 7″ Quartz Records Forgin’ Throu/Settle Down QS010 1980 was written by Joe & Eugene.
