Split Level described themselves as “Stepaside” with a female vocalist. Brendan Farren was formerly with Fit Killkenny and the Remoulds.
Both Pat and Paul had formerly been in Sabre from Cork. Paul also played with Heavy Metal band Bitches Crystal.

During December 1981, Split Level had a Tuesday night residency at the Parliament Inn with Dorian & Fox.
