Carling/Hot Press Battle Of The Bands 1986

The Carling/Hot Press Battle Of The Bands was a completion to find the best unsigned band in Ireland. Bands had to send a demo tape in to the judges, the final 20 would then be selected to play live at Sir Henry’s in Cork, to make it though to the grand final. If you won, a record deal & £1,000 was up for grabs.

The competition is held at Sir Henry’s, in Cork over 5 weeks. With the winner each week going on to the final.

Brian O’Brien Evening Echo. Dump The Dummy have a commercial song in “Gut Feelin” but lack the vocal power to put it across with any conviction.

By the end of 1987 Dump The Dummy had were no more, they would later reappear as Giant.

Cork Rocks 1991

The Evening Echo put on a concert at Sir Henry’s in Cork “Cork Rocks 1991” bands that played over the weekend were I.R.S., Bird, The Precious Stones, A Touch Of Oliver, The Chelsea Drugstore, Therapy, LIR, The Wishing Stones, Azure Days, Toasted Heretic, The Frank & Walters, Brilliant Trees, The Cranberries. The whole thing was recorded on a 24 track tape and later broadcast on the Dave Fanning Show. Over 40 record company executive’s from America, UK & Europe were expected.
