29/08/1984 Town Hall, Christchurch, New Zealand. Unforgettable Fire Leg 1

U2’s The Unforgettable Fire Tour ran through 1984 and 1985, following the release of their album of the same name. It marked a huge leap in their path to global fame, as their first major world tour with performances in larger arenas and stadiums, and a more ambitious stage setup than before. The tour also brought U2 to New Zealand and Australia for the first time. Initially, songs from the new album weren’t included in the setlist due to a lack of rehearsal time, but they were gradually added as the tour went on.

Live Under Australian Skies

The Under Australian Skies tour shattered box office records in both New Zealand and Australia, with all tickets selling out weeks before U2’s arrival. An extra show was added in Sydney due to high demand. The band wouldn’t return to New Zealand until the “Lovetown” tour in 1989, joined by B.B. King.
