01/12/1979 U2-3 London Club Tour December 1979 & Irish dates up to 11th January 1980

U2 embarked on a short 13-date tour of the London club scene called U2-3. The scheduled gig at Brunel University with The Photos was cancelled due to Wendy Wu’s vocal issues, but an extra show with Doll By Doll at The Venue in Victoria was quickly added. U2 will reschedule their concert with the Photo’s, this will now take place as part of the Boy Tour 1980 at the Marquee in London. These marked U2’s first concerts in the UK, with most venues having seen their peak during the early ’70s London Pub Rock era. Back in Dublin, they played a sold-out show at the Dandelion Market to around 200 people—over twice the usual crowd—making it their final appearance there. U2 also returned for the last time to the Community Centre in Howth and the Downtown Kampus in Cork, both key venues in building their reputation in 1979. U2 would play a couple more concerts at the Kampus during the early part of 1980.

Like when Bono, at the Moonlight Club the previous weekend, went to take off his sweater, he handed the mike to the nearest “punter”, to hold for him. The guy’s bewilderment changed to amazement, to laughter, as Bono returned to stage front and thanked him for his help. he didn’t stop dancing for the rest of the set. Rock singers don’t do that kind of thing. But who achieves anything worthwhile by
following a bunch of rules?
