Set: includes Out Of Control, Boy/Girl, Stories For Boys.

This concert was not part of U2's "Tour de France", but is their first known concert of 1980. This concert is one of only two that U2 will play in Cavan, strangely enough the second concert is only a month later as part of the newly discovered U2 Irish tour "Tour De France".

This action was taken by the college due too the number of concerts being disrupted by violence.

As U2 release their second CBS Ireland single the week after this concert, so I have included it in the set list. The original CBS single comes with a picture postcard drawn by Bono. “Another Day” has never been included on any U2 album. The b-side, “Twilight,” however, was later re-recorded and released on Boy.

18/02/1980 Blue Lagoon, Sligo

Attendance, unknown
Support; The Shade or The Kidz
Admission; £1.50

Set: includes Out Of Control, Boy/Girl, Stories For Boys, Another Day, Twlight.

This concert is the first on U2's long forgotten 1980 national tour of Ireland the "Tour de France". Before the tour U2 had been getting a lot of flack in Ireland for not playing towns & cities outside of Dublin & Cork such as Limerick, Cavan, Waterford, Galway & Sligo.

According to a article in "Hot Press", U2's second CBS Ireland single "Another Day/Twlight" is released to coincide with the start of U2's first nationwide tour of Ireland.

Pictured left is the contract between U2 and Seamus Monaghan of the Blue Lagoon, it guarantees U2 £100, to be paid in cash on the night and a ticket price of £1.50.

I don't know the capacity of the Blue Lagoon, but according to the local paper (Sligo Champion) the concert is a sell out.

This venue is a late addition to the tour, Limerick is not listed as one of the venues on the original tour poster.

As far as I know this is the one and only time U2 play in Limerick, there is a small amount of trouble in the crowd. U2 don't go down well in Limerick, after Bono criticises the the Limerick crowd in the Irish Press (he called them "Boot Boys"). This leads to U2 not being able to play a venue in Limerick for their May 1980 "Come Out To Play" tour.

John Dundon U2 played the Crescent Hall only, I was at the gig - the audience was small and a row broke out, I don't have a good memory of the gig as I was not fond of getting kicked - because I was great pals with Ber Angley and also knew Brendan Murray RIP I have / had the poster of the gig which I gave to Mick Dolan a few years ago for his 50th birthday and he now has it mounted in our main Limerick music venue Dolans of which I am a good frequenter , my wife , guitarist in the Experts said I was mad but sure better on a wall for all to see than up in the loft.

I had seen U 2 a good few memorable nights at the Arcadia in Cork in 78 /79 and thought they were amazing along with D C Nien who I also loved, so I was disappointed at the poor and embarrassing Limerick reception.

I reckon maybe the Shade played support in the Crescent as I have their 7 inch and I always buy something at a gig or most times any case
