Electra Glide

Drogheda 1980 - 1982

Line up;
Ali Pentony Bass and Vocals
Stevie McGowan Lead Guitar and Vocals
Brian “Owensie” Owens Rhythm Guitar
Murrough O’Brien Drums

Drogheda rock band Electra Glide took their name from the large Harley Davidson motor bikes used by the American Highway Patrol policemen. Fromed in 1980 out of the ashes of two other Drogheda bands, Demented & Daylight Robbery.
Ali and Stevie previously both played with Drogheda band Demented, Stevie also had a stint playing with Gentry and Joey Mahers Band. Ali and Murrough both had regular work as session musician.
Electra Glide have played a few dates before hitting their home front (Bonnyside). They’ve been rehearsing in the Gem for the past few months and their repertoire includes about 20 percent of their own material which is penned by Stevie.
One of Drogheda’s most promising rock bands Electra Glide have high hopes of breaking into the national circuit soon. For they are negotiating a contract with top Irish promoters.
The lads recently went to the Setanta Sound studios in Dundalk and made a three track demo tape. All the numbers are original and we could be hearing on the air waves soon.
There are favourable comment from those who have heard the tapes, which incidentally were produced by the group themselves with the engineering help of Ronan Dennedy.
In March 1981 Electra Glide organise a fund raising concert for the “Stardust Fund” in Drogheda. The concert is held at the Milestone and features local bands Electra Glide, Aztec Demons, Proust Rejects, Prophecy and the Teen Commandments from Dublin.
Electra Glide (metal) Drummer Murrough O’Brien also players in a jazz/rock band called Blues & Beyond from March 82. Band split in June when drummer left. Farewell gig at Joey Mahers in Drogheda, the band have been together for 2 years, the started life as a foursome but Guitarist Brian Owens quit after a year, the others carried on as a trio. The most popular outfit in Drogheda over the past year, they were the only group capable of packing Joey Mahers on a Friday night.
